Ghostly Spaniard (a.k.a. Cortez) came to us on the thin side. We have had him for a couple of months, dewormed him regularly, and just can't seem to put weight on him. I know he will always be on the slight side, but I just don't want to see ribs and hip bones.
So I spoke to our local Tribute Grain feed rep and asked him what we need to do.
He came up with a plan:
Tribute Feeds was kind enough to donate this feed for the Cortez trial. We are very happy for this contribution... and Cortez is too!
Here's a little more about Tribute... they are a family owned company who's sole focus is the well-being of the horse. They have a wide selection of feed based on the horse's individual needs. Tribute uses quality ingredients and does not add corn... corn is a big no, no in the horse world. The grains are extruded which makes them easier to digest and they contain probiotics to help maintain normal gut function.
Personally, I love this feed. I feed all my horses Kalm Ultra... you can read more about it here: https://tributeequinenutrition.com/products/kalm-ultra. They no longer leave bits and pieces at the bottom of the bucket. They eat every bit of it... and that's hard to say with finicky Thoroughbreds.
I am not as familiar with the Essential K, so I am very curious to see the weight gain with Cortez in 30 days. We do have him on a light work program, so the Essential K, which is full of amino acids, will help him build that muscle as he is working more. You can read more about this product here: https://tributeequinenutrition.com/products/essential-k
At the end of 30 days, we will re-evaluate Cortez. We will take more pictures to see the difference. We can't wait!
